This first meeting is vital for setting the scope for the entire project and aims to align our designer’s approach with your expectations. You have the opportunity to share your vision and what you want whilst helping us understand any specific challenges within your garden. After this visit, you’ll receive a proposal outlining the design process, our fees, and a summary of what was discussed.

At this stage, we’ll take precise measurements of your garden and note any existing features such as boundaries, buildings, and vegetation. Assessing soil quality, exposure to sunlight and any significant views are also considered to ensure an accurate design is created. Digital photos may be taken for future reference.

After this survey, we will meet to explore various design ideas in a brainstorming session and we encourage input from everyone involved with the garden. The session will help to agree on a creative direction and ensure your preferences are incorporated into the preliminary designs.

Once the initial concept drawings are approved by you, these are transformed into a comprehensive Presentation Plan. This plan details all the design elements such as paths, seating areas, and water features with a visualisation of how these integrate with the garden layout. It’s a combination of technical drawings and artistic representations to help you visualise the finished garden.

This element of the plan will specify the placement of each element within the garden, including detailed construction drawings for complex features like walls and steps. The essential part of the plan for when the garden project is put out to tender, ensuring all contractors bid on the same level of work and materials.

Plant selection and placement are discussed throughout the design process, culminating in a detailed planting plan. This will show any existing plants which are to be retained or moved plus all the new plants going into the garden. The plan shows where each plant goes including specifics like plant species (using botanical names), quantities, and pot sizes. It’s designed to show you how the garden will look when the plants mature and what to consider for maintenance.

Depending on the project’s scope, this may be a simple set of drawings or a series of detailed documents. A landscaper will use these to create an accurate quote for building your garden. For larger, more complex projects, detailed specifications help contractors understand the scope of work and the expected quality of the finished garden.

Our designer can oversee the garden construction to ensure it stays true to the design. This may involve regular visits and consultations with the contractor to address any issues that arise. For complex projects, having our designer involved throughout the build can prevent problems and ensure you have a high-quality outcome.
